Job description
This role blends hands-on engineering, problem solving, and customer facing technical support. The successful candidate will work closely with design, manufacturing, sales, and customer teams to ensure solutions are robust, practical, and aligned with real world operational requirements. A proactive mindset is essential, with an expectation to contribute new ideas, challenge existing approaches, and drive continuous improvement in both products and processes., * Act as a technical specialist supporting customers and internal teams with product selection, application, and integration.
- Develop and adapt engineered solutions to meet project-specific requirements, standards, and environmental conditions.
- Support tendering and proposal activities through technical input, drawings, calculations, and documentation.
Design & Development
- Design mechanical systems and components using 3D CAD tools (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor).
- Perform engineering calculations and analysis to validate performance, safety, and durability.
- Collaborate with R&D and manufacturing teams to optimise designs for production, installation, and lifecycle performance.
Product Support & Field Engineering
- Act as a technical liaison between engineering, sales, manufacturing, and customer facing teams.
- Support on site trials, installations, inspections, and customer meetings.
- Investigate product issues in service, carrying out failure analysis and recommending corrective actions.
- Travel (UK and international) to support customer sites, exhibitions, factory visits, surveys, and project delivery activities.
Drafting & Documentation
- Produce and maintain detailed engineering drawings, bills of materials, and technical datasheets.
- Ensure documentation complies with relevant industry standards and internal quality procedures.
- Support the creation of installation manuals, user guides, and technical training materials.
Requirements
- HNC/HND or degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience in applications engineering, product engineering, or technical support within an engineered systems or infrastructure focused industry.
- Strong proficiency in 3D CAD with a solid understanding of drawing standards, tolerancing, and manufacturing considerations.
- Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and mechanical assembly techniques.
- Experience providing practical, solution focused technical support to customers and internal stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging both technical and non-technical audiences.
