Job description

  • Lead and develop the UK Software Engineering team, setting direction and supporting growth.
  • Act as the key interface between Software Engineering and other technical disciplines.
  • Coach and mentor engineers, ensuring effective performance management and career development.
  • Build a culture of technical excellence, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure software projects are well-estimated, planned and delivered on time, managing risks and removing blockers.
  • Maintain and evolve software development processes, documentation, coding standards and testing practices.
  • Oversee code reviews and release discipline to ensure high-quality output.
  • Collaborating closely with amongst others: Product Line Management, Quality, PMO, Systems Engineering, System Test, Hardware/Mechanical and Technical Publications teams on priorities and technical/quality issues.

  • Strong experience in software development and leading engineering teams.
  • Able to work collaboratively across disciplines and represent Software Engineering in internal and external technical discussions.
  • Comfortable driving corrective action processes and contributing to field-issue investigations.
  • Degree-qualified in a software-related discipline (or able to demonstrate equivalent proven experience).
  • A great people leader with the ability to build trust, engagement and team cohesion.
  • Technically capable and able to bring structure, clarity and direction to complex work.
  • A clear and confident communicator, able to summarise and report on complex work, with strong cross functional influence.
