Job description
The IT Manager is a critical leadership role responsible for the design, delivery, security and ongoing management of all internal IT systems and infrastructure. This role ensures that the business operates on a secure, resilient and scalable technology platform while supporting both internal teams and client-facing delivery where required.
In addition to hands-on technical leadership, the IT Manager will hold accountability for IT governance, cyber security and external accreditations, including Cyber Essentials and ISO standards. The role includes line management responsibilities and a mandate to build team capacity in line with business growth., IT Strategy, Leadership & Governance
- Define and deliver the IT strategy in line with business objectives, scalability and service delivery requirements.
- Establish, maintain and continuously improve IT policies, procedures and standards.
- Provide technical leadership and direction across the organisation.
Systems, Infrastructure & Network Management
- Maintain, support and optimise all company systems, networks, servers, cloud platforms and applications.
- Oversee user access management, permissions, identity and authentication controls.
- Ensure system availability, performance, resilience and disaster recovery readiness.
Cyber Security & Risk Management
- Lead the organisation's cyber security posture, including threat prevention, monitoring, incident response and remediation.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, vulnerability management and security reviews.
- Promote cyber security awareness and good practice across the business.
Accreditations, Compliance & Assurance
- Take ownership of all IT-related accreditations and certifications, including Cyber Essentials, Cyber Essentials Plus, ISO 27001 and other relevant ISO standards.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with accreditation requirements through audits, evidence gathering, documentation and controls.
- Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors, assessors and certification bodies.
- Embed accreditation standards into day-to-day IT operations and business processes.
Technical Delivery & Oversight
- Oversee the technical aspects of building, installing, configuring and maintaining IT hardware and software.
- Define technical standards and best practices for system builds, configurations and deployments.
- Provide escalation support for complex technical issues when required.
People Management & Capacity Building
- Line manage IT team members, providing clear objectives, coaching and development.
- Recruit and onboard new technical staff as the business grows.
- Build team capability, resilience and capacity to support current and future demand.
Supplier, Asset & Budget Management
- Manage relationships with IT vendors, service providers and partners.
- Oversee procurement and lifecycle management of IT assets.
- Support IT budgeting, cost control and value optimisation.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a trusted IT advisor to senior leadership and internal teams.
- Translate technical concepts into clear, business-focused recommendations.
- Support client-facing engagements where appropriate, representing the business professionally.
Requirements
Do you have experience in NetSuite?, This position is ideally suited to an experienced IT professional who is comfortable working in an SME environment, is highly adaptable, and is not afraid to roll up their sleeves to deliver practical solutions., * Proven experience in a senior IT or IT Manager role, ideally within an SME or IT services environment.
- Strong hands-on technical background across systems, networks, infrastructure, cloud and security.
- Demonstrable experience managing Cyber Essentials and/or ISO accreditations.
- Experience leading and developing technical teams.
- Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on delivery.
- Strong organisational, documentation and audit-readiness skills.
Desirable
- Experience within MSPs or IT solutions businesses.
- Knowledge of ITIL or similar service management frameworks.
- Industry certifications (e.g. Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA Security+, ISO Lead Implementer/Auditor).
Qualifications
- Degree in IT, Computer Science or related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
- Relevant professional certifications are highly advantageous.
