Job description
Tesla's Energy Division is seeking a highly skilled Senior Network Design Architect to lead and own network designs for upcoming energy projects, including grid-scale storage, solar, and renewable integration initiatives. This pivotal role serves as the central point of contact for cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and external partners. The position is strategically focused, emphasising high-level design oversight, customer interactions, and collaboration rather than hands-on implementation. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in networking technologies, particularly Cisco equipment, combined with a strong understanding of the energy sector's unique protocols, security requirements, and electrical design processes. What You'll Do
- Own the end-to-end network architecture and design for energy projects, ensuring scalability, reliability, and alignment with Tesla's innovative energy solutions
- Act as the primary liaison for multiple internal teams (e.g., engineering, product development, and deployment) and external customers, translating technical requirements into actionable designs
- Collaborate on customer-facing activities, including presentations, consultations, and solution proposals to support project sales and implementation
- Evaluate and integrate energy-specific protocols such as Parallel Redundancy Protocol (PRP), High-availability Seamless Redundancy (HSR), and Precision Time Protocol (PTP) to optimise performance in critical infrastructure
- Ensure designs adhere to Operational Technology (OT) security standards, including risk assessments, segmentation, and compliance with industry regulations (e.g., IEC 62443)
- Review and interpret electrical drawings, contributing to the electrical design process to integrate networking elements seamlessly with power systems
- Provide strategic guidance on network topologies, equipment selection, and emerging technologies in the energy market
- Mentor junior team members and facilitate knowledge sharing across teams to build organisational expertise
Requirements
Do you have a Master's degree?, * Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science, networking, or a related field; master's degree preferred
- 5+ years' experience in network design and architecture, ideally within the energy, utilities, or critical infrastructure sectors
- Proven expertise with Cisco networking equipment and technologies; Cisco certifications (e.g., CCNP, CCIE) are highly desirable
- In-depth knowledge of energy market protocols, including PRP, HSR, PTP, and related standards for high-reliability systems
- Strong understanding of OT security principles, including threat modelling, secure network segmentation, and protection of industrial control systems
- Familiarity with electrical drawings (e.g., single-line diagrams, schematics) and the electrical design process in energy projects
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience in customer-facing roles and cross-team collaboration
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, innovative environment with a focus on strategic oversight rather than tactical execution
- Willingness to travel occasionally for project sites, customer meetings, or team collaborations
Highly Beneficial
- Experience with renewable energy systems, grid integration, or smart grid technologies
- Knowledge of additional protocols or tools relevant to energy networks (e.g., IEC 61850, DNP3, IEC 104)
