Job description

We're looking for a Moodle Developer to lead the development, enhancement and integration of our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), delivering a modern, engaging and mobile first learning experience for students (and staff) across Cardiff Met.

You'll lead the way by:

  • Developing, customising and enhancing Moodle - including plugins, themes, dashboards and modules - to create intuitive, accessible and high performing learning experiences.
  • Rolling out and optimising the Moodle Mobile App for all students, ensuring seamless access to learning materials, notifications and interactive features across devices.
  • Strengthening Moodle integrations with the University mobile app, enabling smooth navigation through features such as single sign on, real time data syncing, personalised content feeds, course resources, assessment data and forums.
  • Consolidating and enhancing integrations across learning platforms, reducing fragmentation and ensuring a consistent, connected student journey.
  • Improving performance, accessibility and user experience across desktop and mobile platforms, ensuring inclusive and equitable access for all learners.
  • Leveraging Moodle 4.5's built in AI capabilities, using tools such as automated course summaries, intelligent content recommendations and text to image generation to enhance learning and assist academic staff.

In this role, you'll help shape a learning digital ecosystem that truly makes a difference, empowering students, supporting staff, and strengthening the digital experience across the university.

What you'll bring

You'll bring strong technical expertise in Moodle development and a passion for creating high-quality digital learning experiences in a complex environment.

This includes:

  • Proven, hands-on experience delivering Moodle customisation, plug-ins, integrations, and enhancements.
  • Strong development skills in PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS and JavaScript, with a deep understanding of Moodle architecture and capabilities and deep knowledge on developing and using APIs.
  • Experience working with the Moodle Mobile Application and supporting upgrades, enhancements and troubleshooting.
