Job description

British Transport Police have an opportunity for a RASSO Researcher to join the Complex and Specialist Crime department. As a Researcher with BTP, you will provide high-quality research and intelligence development to support effective decision-making across the Force.

The role involves researching, assessing and evaluating information from a wide range of sources to produce intelligence products at strategic, tactical and operational levels. You will also manage all intelligence report evaluations for the Force-assessing, inputting, developing and disseminating intelligence in line with relevant legislation.

Additionally, you will handle all research requests from internal and external customers, including live-time and urgent enquiries requiring immediate action.

What you'll be doing:

  • Researching and developing intelligence - conducting qualitative and quantitative research, identifying intelligence gaps and emerging issues, and supporting the production of intelligence and analytical products.
  • Disseminating intelligence and supporting operations - sharing intelligence with BTP teams and external partners, including providing live-time intelligence to support critical, tactical and operational decision-making.
  • Providing specialist support and collaboration - working with specialist teams, conducting overt and covert open-source enquiries (as an III practitioner), preparing research outputs and evidence, and maintaining strong partnership relationships to support information sharing.
  • Evaluating and managing intelligence reports - assessing, sanitising and validating all incoming intelligence, creating accurate records and ensuring compliance with MOPI, NIM and relevant legislation.

Requirements

  • Strong research skills - able to undertake both qualitative and quantitative research, assimilate large volumes of data and produce clear, detailed and accurate research-based reports.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills - able to communicate findings clearly, listen to others, and build productive working relationships with colleagues, partners and stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational and IT capability - proficient in using IT systems, databases and software, with the ability to prioritise workload, plan effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Relevant knowledge and qualifications - educated to degree level (or equivalent experience) with a sound understanding of key legislation and guidance relevant to the role (e.g. RIPA, GDPR, MOPI, IPP) and the ability to interpret and apply guidance appropriately, Vetting: Successful applicants will be required to pass Management Vetting (5 years minimum UK residency required), including a full background and financial disclosure.
