Job description
We are seeking a creative and independent Game Designer to work alongside our Senior Designer and the rest of the team, on both our upcoming Unreal Engine Stronghold game and future Firefly titles.
Handling a diverse set of responsibilities including evaluating game builds, designing missions, identifying design risks, concepting new features, working closely with art and other departments, you will assist us to evolve and refine our core gameplay vision for a modern strategy audience.
On future titles you will collaborate with leadership to flesh out the vision for core gameplay systems, translating high level creative goals into actionable design documentation for use across departments. This will involve work at the R&D stage to prototype and iterate on key gameplay systems and content, shaping the design of units, characters and directly impacting the game's design direction.
Working closely with senior and junior designers at the company on Stronghold Unreal and directly with Firefly's Studio Heads on future titles, it will be your responsibility to concept, iterate on and leave your unique mark on design elements in our games., Your contact for this role will be our Studio Heads, Paul Harris and Nick Tannahill. Requirements
This is a mid level position. We will consider applications from all candidates, however games industry experience is a prerequisite for this role., This role is ideal for a candidate with prior experience working in video games, with a willingness to work independently on a variety of tasks that fall under the umbrella of design. We are looking for someone creative with strong visual skills, who can work with art and code leads to realise their ambitions for the game while making smart choices along the way.
Your ultimate goal will be to create polished, entertaining and engaging design features that surprise and delight our players.
As this is a mid level position, our successful candidate will be self-driven and expected to manage assigned tasks through to completion independently.
What You Need
Previous experience shipping games in a design role
Understanding of strategy game design principles and new trends within the genre
Experience turning a project's creative goals into actionable design direction
Willingness to provide well documented feedback ensuring quality and player-first decision making
Enthusiasm for hands-on playtesting and providing feedback to the development team
Ability to work within constraints, balancing vision with production constraints and player sentiment
Has worked with programmers and understands the limitations and ramifications of design on code
Be a quick learner who isn't afraid to fail, learn and ask for guidance
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Be happy to turn your hand to any design task
Right to work full time in the UK
What Sets You Apart
Prior work in Unreal Engine
Level design experience
Experience developing and playing real-time strategy games
Previous playable game projects which demonstrate your creative spark as a designer

️ Office hours are UK full time 9am - 5:30pm, Mon - Fri.
Starting salary band of £35,000 - £60,000 (Dependant on Experience)
