Principal Infrastructure Engineer
Salary: £58,000 + Benefits Hybrid: On-site approx. 1 day per week
We're supporting a growing UK financial services organisation that's looking for an experienced Prinicipal Infrastructure Engineer to oversee and evolve their core technology estate. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys leading people, improving operational maturity, and driving modernisation across a hybrid cloud environment. The Role
You'll lead the day-to-day operation of core infrastructure services including Servers, storage, virtualisation, cloud, backup/DR, and monitoring.
Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring availability, stability, performance, and security of the infrastructure estate
- Acting as the senior escalation point for incidents and major problems
- Leading and developing a high-performing infrastructure team (1:1s, PDPs, coaching, resource planning)
- Working closely with architecture, security, project teams, and third-party providers
- Improving monitoring, documentation, processes, and operational controls
- Contributing to technology roadmaps and driving continuous improvement, automation, and life cycle management
What We're Looking For
- Strong leadership and mentoring background within infrastructure teams
- Solid technical knowledge across Windows Server, AD, DNS/DHCP, Group Policy, PKI, M365, Entra ID, Intune, Azure IaaS/PaaS
- Expertise with virtualisation (VMware/Hyper-V) and enterprise storage/backup (eg, SAN/NAS, Veeam, Commvault)
- Experience with DR/BCP and resilient platform design
- Familiarity with monitoring/observability tooling and automation (Terraform/Bicep, PowerShell, DSC/Ansible)
- Problem-solver with a data-driven mindset and strong communication skills
Working Pattern
- Monday-Friday core hours
- Hybrid: approx. one day per week on-site
