Job description

Your new role

A global consultancy is seeking an experienced Software Developer to build, maintain and enhance user-focused software services. You'll produce secure, well-tested code using modern engineering practices, support the systems you deliver, and mentor junior colleagues. The role includes improving development processes, ensuring security, managing availability and contributing to system design and integration.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Strong Java engineering capability with experience delivering production-ready software
  • Hands-on experience using major Java frameworks such as Spring, Hibernate, Struts or JSF to build scalable applications
  • Familiarity with microservices design and related tooling, including containerisation (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes) and API documentation standards (Swagger/OpenAPI)
  • Experience working within UK public sector environments or on government-aligned projects, with an understanding of associated standards and constraints UK National with a minimum of five years' continuous residency, eligible for SC Clearance.
  • Strong foundation in secure coding practices, modern development methodologies and high-quality engineering standards
  • Solid understanding of system architecture and design principles, with the ability to contribute to design discussions and technical decisions
  • Experience developing prototypes, supporting live services and refining development processes to improve efficiency and reliability
  • Comfortable operating and monitoring the services you build, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues
  • A user-centred mindset, ensuring solutions are focused on real needs and deliver measurable value
