Job description

As a Web Developer, you'll become an integral part of our agile development team, working with the latest technology on ground-breaking projects to keep the business at the forefront of our industry.

You'll work on the development and maintenance of our public websites, used to both promote the business, and to give our customers the ability to self-serve and manage their orders.

The technology you will be using includes:

  • PHP 8+ / Symfony 6+ & Twig templating
  • Symfony UX
  • JavaScript / TypeScript
  • Tailwind CSS, HTML5

  • RESTful APIs / API Platform
  • Webpack

  • Git version control, * Build and maintain Wren's custom built, cutting edge applications (Symfony 6+ based)
  • Develop responsive, accessible, and performant user interfaces using Tailwind CSS and Symfony UX
  • Integrate with RESTful APIs and external data sources
  • Optimise site performance for SEO and user experience
  • Write clean code that is clear and understandable by others
  • Contribute to all phases of the development lifecycle
  • Work with senior developers, business stakeholders and wider development team to understand the initial scope for a new project

Requirements

Do you have experience in macOS?, Essential

  • A genuine passion (and a keen eye!) for website design and usability
  • Frontend development experience with LESS/SASS or Tailwind CSS, HTML5 and modern TypeScript / JavaScript
  • Understanding of UX principles and best practices
  • Knowledge of technical SEO and performance optimisation techniques
  • Experience of using Version Control systems such as Git as part of a team
  • Familiar with Linux or Mac OS
  • At least 2 years' experience in creating and maintaining object oriented PHP7 or PHP8 based systems
  • An understanding of the MVC approach to development
  • Experience of working with MySQL (We use v8 currently)
  • Experience of using version control systems (such as Git) as part of a team A passion for adhering to coding standards and clean code

Desirable

  • Experience with Redis and OpenSearch / ElasticSearch
  • Knowledge of Symfony UX or similar
  • Understanding of JavaScript programming concepts including object composition and scope.
  • Experience using utilities and build tools including Docker, Webpack, NPM, ESLint and Stylelint.
  • Experience of Agile project methodologies and its impact on iterative design
  • Experience of working in a continuous integration environment
  • A working knowledge of the Symfony (or equivalent) framework
  • A working knowledge of the Doctrine ORM
  • Experience in creating and maintaining RESTFul APIs.
  • Experience of automated testing (e.g. Playwright, PHPUnit)
  • Knowledge of design patterns, with practical experience of implementing them
  • Experience of agile project methodologies (and its impact on iterative design)
  • Experience of working in a continuous integration environment
  • Familiar with Linux or Mac OS
  • Has previously worked for a retailer / understands retail process
