Job description

HD Tech are working with a well known business who are on the hunt for an Senior IT Support Engineer to take ownership of the day-to-day operation of their IT systems and infrastructure. This is a hands-on, standalone, office-based role, ideal for someone who enjoys resolving a broad range of technical issues (routine and non-routine) while providing responsive help desk support.

Although the position is site-based and largely autonomous, the successful candidate will collaborate with a wider global IT function, using shared systems and resources. The role is key to ensuring reliable IT service delivery for the client's UK operation, with responsibility for both user support and infrastructure management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations of network infrastructure, servers, VoIP systems, and mobile communications

  • Provide first-line and escalated IT support to internal users and remote colleagues in other time zones

  • Maintain system reliability through routine checks, updates, and proactive maintenance

  • Ensure IT infrastructure aligns with current and future business needs

  • Manage the IT budget, including procurement planning and supplier coordination

  • Develop and implement risk assessments, backup routines, and disaster recovery strategies

  • Source, install, and manage new or replacement hardware/software

  • Ensure IT practices comply with relevant laws, codes, and regulatory standards

  • Perform ongoing system testing, troubleshooting, and optimisation

  • Lead implementation of network, data, and system security controls

  • Act as the UK site IT representative within the wider global IT team

Requirements

  • Strong Windows 10/11 and Microsoft 365 installation, configuration, and troubleshooting

  • Experience with Windows Server 2016/#####, Exchange Online, Active Directory, and Group Policy

  • Strong VMware vSphere ESXi and vCenter knowledge

  • Experience supporting SME networks: firewalls, switches, WLAN/WAN, DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, and client SSL VPNs

  • Daily administration of centrally managed antivirus and SaaS email security platforms

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with confidence supporting both local and remote users

  • Exposure to HPE SAN/NAS storage environments

  • Experience with Veeam Backup & Recovery (on-site/off-site strategies)

  • Hands-on VoIP experience, ideally including Avaya IP Office (on-premise)
