Job description
As Software Developer Bioinformatics at GenDx, you contribute to our software solutions for transplantation diagnostics. You will participate in the development and maintenance of our HLA typing and Chimerism monitoring tools and be involved in the development of software products supporting advanced molecular diagnostics.
You enjoy translating biological and clinical needs into robust software solutions and are comfortable working in a multidisciplinary environment. You are enthusiastic, creative, accurate, and proactive in your communication. You see challenges rather than problems and resolve complex issues using different approaches.
You add value to the R&D Software team and collaborate closely with colleagues working on our diagnostic software portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain software components.
- Collaborate closely with the team, project manager(s), and other relevant stakeholders to translate requirements into robust software solutions.
- Improve and maintain existing codebases with a focus on quality, performance, and maintainability.
- Contribute to development best practices (code reviews, testing, clear documentation).
- Support software used in regulated or quality-sensitive clinical/laboratory environments (data handling, analysis support, reporting, integrations, etc.).
- Working according to ISO 13485 and IEC62304 standards.
Requirements
- B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Software Engineering, (Bio)informatics or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience in software development.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with C# and/or Java.
- Experience with version control (e.g., Git): branching, pull requests, code reviews.
- Familiarity with modern development practices: writing clean code, debugging, testing and documentation.
- Experience in or affinity for molecular biology, genomics and/or diagnostics.
- Excellent command of English (written and spoken).
- You are based within commuting distance of our office at Utrecht Science Park, or are willing to relocate to the area.
- Please note that you must be legally eligible to live and work in the Netherlands. Unfortunately, sponsorship is not always possible for this role.
Preferred qualifications
- Familiarity with UML (e.g., designing and/or interpreting software models/diagrams).
- Experience developing web applications (preferably , tomcat, ASP.NET).
- Proficiency in development using Visual Studio.
- Knowledge of molecular techniques (e.g. DNA sequencing and related analyses software).
- Bioinformatics experience (e.g., biological data handling, pipelines, assay/QC concepts).
- Familiarity with secure development practices; cybersecurity awareness.
- Experience working in or alongside regulated/quality-managed environments (documentation, traceability, validation mindset).
