Job description
Learning new skillsets and pushing the boundaries has always been the norm in the IT hosting team. This time, however, open-source technologies are being heavily tested and ultimately run in a live environment. Technologies like Proxmox, EVPN, and KVM are in full swing and will be a key driver for innovation, scaling, and cost saving over the next several years.
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Plymouth for a Virtualisation Engineer. Reporting to the Hosting Manager and working in a team totalling 9 I.T professionals, this role plays a key part in maintaining and evolving itim's custom private cloud and SaaS-based infrastructure. You will support and enhance our core hosting platforms, networks, and infrastructure services, ensuring high availability, performance, and security across the estate.
We are actively modernising our environment, Currently we are implementing open-source virtualisation platforms such as Proxmox. This role offers the opportunity to influence technical direction, contribute fresh ideas, and work across a broad and evolving technology stack.
Requirements
This is a hands-on, on-site position suited to someone with a strong generalist background across infrastructure, systems administration, and networking - someone comfortable operating across multiple domains rather than confined to a single specialism, Experience with Proxmox and any KVM is strongly desired.
