Principal DevOps Engineer - 6 months - Remote - Outside IR35

We are seeking an experienced Principal DevOps Engineer to support the design, optimisation, and governance of our delivery platform and engineering workflows.

This role sits at the intersection of hands-on DevOps, technical architecture, and delivery strategy. You will take ownership of CI/CD pipelines, tooling, and developer experience., * Design, build, and optimise CI/CD pipelines and release processes

• Own and enhance engineering and project onboarding
• Review and assess current architecture for fitness-for-purpose and scalability
• Define and implement best practices for DevOps, automation, and delivery
• Lead the setup and optimisation of Jira for tracking, reporting, and governance
• Support the sizing and structuring of delivery teams for upcoming projects
• Improve developer experience, tooling, and productivity
• Work closely with engineering, product, and leadership teams
• Provide technical leadership and strategic input on platform direction
• Document processes, standards, and architectural decisions

• Strong background in DevOps, platform engineering, or infrastructure architecture
• Proven experience building and running CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps)
• Experience designing scalable cloud-based delivery platforms (Azure preferred)
• Solid understanding of modern software delivery practices (CI/CD, IaC, GitOps)
• Experience implementing and managing Jira for reporting and governance
• Strong architectural review and systems design experience
• Ability to operate at both strategic and hands-on technical levels
• Excellent stakeholder communication and leadership skills
• Comfortable working in fast-paced, delivery-focused environments

Desirable Experience

• Previous experience in Principal, Lead, or Architect-level roles
• Platform engineering or internal developer platform ownership
• Team and delivery capability design
• Telecommunications Experience
