IT Infrastructure Engineer - Contractor (BAU Support) Day Rate: £300 Outside IR35 Location: Hybrid - Onsite (Whitley/Leeds/Doncaster) & Remote Start Date: ASAP - must be available immediately to start Duration: Initial 8-12 weeks (extension subject to review)
Overview
An experienced Infrastructure Engineer is required to provide short-term, hands-on BAU support during a period of reduced internal capacity. The role focuses on stabilising infrastructure operations, providing Level 3 escalation support, maintaining patching and automation standards, and reducing operational backlog.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as an L3 escalation point for infrastructure incidents and problems.
- Manage and support VMware environments (vSphere 7/8) and physical HP servers.
- Maintain Windows Server (2016-2022), Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, GPO, and file services.
- Oversee SAN storage, Veeam backups, and infrastructure monitoring.
- Provide BAU network and Firewall support (Fortinet).
- Maintain regular patching, perform root cause analysis, and improve automation with PowerShell.
- Update documentation, SOPs, and runbooks; provide clear handover with recommendations.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years in Infrastructure Engineering within enterprise or multi-site environments.
- Strong expertise in VMware, Windows Server, Active Directory, and Veeam.
- Solid understanding of network fundamentals (VLANs, switching, TCP/IP) and BAU Firewall support.
- Proficient in PowerShell automation and ITIL-aligned change control.
- Proactive, delivery-focused, and able to work independently in BAU-heavy environments.
