Job description
As a Graduate/ Junior Design Engineer, you will develop the technical capability to undertake structural design work across steel and timber structures, including:
- Main member design
- Connection design
- Temporary works design
You will be mentored by experienced engineers to build technical confidence, regulatory understanding and commercial awareness, enabling you to contribute to innovative, high-quality project delivery., With support and mentoring, you will learn to:
- Undertake connection and member design for tender and contract stages
- Assist in the initial design of projects, defining clear assumptions for design development
- Contribute to temporary works design and completion activities
- Understand how structural elements connect and recognise the limitations of fixings, brackets and connection types
- Apply relevant codes of practice and design guidance to justify engineering decisions
- Interpret and extract design information from 3D models
- Develop Excel-based tools and design models to support project delivery
- Prepare written technical documents including risk mitigation, clarifications and qualifications
- Attend client and engineer meetings, recording discussions and tracking actions
- Participate in post-tender meetings and support responses to technical queries
- Contribute to the development of internal design systems and processes
- Provide technical support to colleagues across projects
Working Pattern
- 36 hours per week
- Monday to Friday
- 3 days office-based / 2 days remote
- Early afternoon finish on Fridays
Requirements
Do you have a Master's degree?, * MEng or MSc in Structural Engineering
- Aspiring toward (or already working toward) MICE or IStructE membership
- Knowledge of steel and/or timber structures, with a strong desire to develop in both
- Understanding of UK National Annexes and Building Regulations
- Awareness of fabrication processes (training provided on specific products)

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: £28,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
