Job description

We're not just a bank. We're a technology-led organisation with a bold ambition: to shape finance as a force for good. As we continue to invest in our people, platforms, and products, we're looking for passionate Senior Software Engineers to help us create secure, scalable, and customer-first solutions.

If you're someone who thrives in collaborative environments, enjoys solving meaningful problems, and wants to make a real impact, this could be the perfect next step in your career.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing and building modern applications that touch millions of lives. You'll:

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy backend and full-stack applications.

  • Build and deploy containerized applications with Docker and Kubernetes.

  • Apply Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and Test-Driven Development (TDD) principles.

  • Collaborate closely with Quality Engineers, Product Owners, and Architects.

  • Integrate with internal systems and third-party APIs to create seamless user experiences.

  • Contribute to architectural decisions and help shape our engineering strategy.

  • Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of learning and inclusion.

Why Join Us….

We're investing billions in our people, places and tech to change the way we meet the needs of our 28 million customers. We're growing and we'd love you to be part of that journey.

Requirements

We're looking for engineers who are adaptable, curious, and passionate about building great software! To help us understand how you might contribute to our team, please highlight any relevant experience with the following skills and technologies in your application:

Application Development

  • Proven hands-on experience with TypeScript, React and Node.js, including designing and implementing scalable and secure web applications and RESTful APIs.

  • Familiarity with event-driven systems, including experience with Kafka, is beneficial.

DevOps & Cloud

  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Harness, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions.

  • Familiarity with Docker for containerization and Kubernetes for orchestration.

  • Exposure to cloud platforms - Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Azure are preferred, but AWS is also welcome.

Quality Testing & Automation

  • Experience with automated testing tools such as Jest, Playwright, and Pact.

  • Experience with mocking, using tools such as Nock and WireMock.

  • Commitment to writing reliable, maintainable, and well-tested code.

Benefits & conditions

Our focus is to ensure we're inclusive every day, building an organisation that reflects modern society and celebrates diversity in all its forms. We want our people to feel that they belong and can be their best, regardless of background, identity or culture. We were one of the first major organisations to set goals on diversity in senior roles, create a menopause health package, and a dedicated Working with Cancer initiative. We're disability confident, so if you'd like reasonable adjustments to be made to our recruitment processes, just let us know.

Benefits….

We also offer a wide-ranging benefits package, including:

  • Up to 15% pension contribution

  • Annual bonus based on Group performance

  • Share schemes including free shares

  • 30 days' holiday plus bank holidays

  • Flexible benefits tailored to your lifestyle

  • Generous parental leave and wellbeing support
