Job description

The computer and database technician will be responsible for management, troubleshooting and optimization of the database system at the 14CHRONO radiocarbon laboratory, ensuring it is secure, robust, efficient and fit for purpose for the handling of radiocarbon related samples of both archaeological and environmental sciences origin.Please note this post is part-time 0.2 FTE.About the person:Applicants need to have the following essential criteria

Requirements

  • Relevant academic and/or vocational qualifications; OR Substantial recent relevant experience in a comparable role using databases.

  • GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade C or above or NVQ level 2 Administration or equivalent.

  • Experience in a comparable role to include:

  • Demonstrable experience in MySQL, php and html programming;

  • Experience of data analysis and interpretation.

  • Understanding of data management needs in archaeology and/or environmental sciences.

  • Ability to demonstrate/teach technical methods/processes to students and researchers in archaeology and related disciplines.

  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Able to work well as part of a team.

  • Good organising skills.

  • Ability to work methodically and accurately.

  • Understanding of security and robustness needs in relation to database systems.
