AI Governance Lead - 12 months+ contract - 2-3 days on site near Heathrow/West Drayton - inside IR35

Overview

We recognise the significance of employing AI in a manner that is both safe and ethical. Consequently, we are seeking an AI Governance Lead to join our team. This pivotal role will oversee AI governance (including Machine Learning, Operational Research, and Generative AI), develop and implement our AI governance framework, monitor and update our regulatory framework, and stay informed about the latest advancements in the AI field. The successful candidate will support us in balancing risks and opportunities, ensuring appropriate governance is established to deliver AI use cases in a safe, ethical, and compliant manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the AI Systems Register: Collaborating with key stakeholders across the group to, including OpCos, to secure their support and commitment in maintaining a complete, accurate and up-to-date AI systems register.
  • Develop and Implement AI Governance Framework: Design and establish a comprehensive AI governance framework that includes policies, procedures, and guidelines for the safe, ethical and compliant development, deployment, and use of AI systems.
  • Policy Enforcement: Collaborate closely with legal and compliance colleagues to enforce policies and procedures to promote the safe and ethical use of AI across the group.
  • Ethical Standards: Promote the ethical use of AI by establishing guidelines and best practices that address issues such as bias, fairness, transparency, and accountability in AI systems.
  • Legislation and Best Practices Awareness: Stay informed about emerging AI legislation and industry best practices, integrating these into the governance framework.
  • Training Development: Partner with the central training and enablement team to co-create training programs to foster a culture of responsible AI use within the organisation.
  • Stakeholder Training and Guidance: Offer training and guidance to stakeholders on AI governance importance, legislative updates, and best practices.
  • Compliance Assurance: Ensure all AI solutions comply with relevant legislation, regulations, and best practices, escalating identified risks to appropriate governance forums.
  • Risk Assessment: Collaborate with key stakeholders to identify and evaluate potential risks associated with AI solutions, whether developed in-house or acquired externally.
  • Risk Mitigation Support: Support product owners of AI solutions in implementing strategies and controls to mitigate potential adverse impacts of their AI solutions.
  • Audit Point of Contact: Serve as the primary contact with external auditors during AI governance-related audits.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Establish mechanisms to continuously monitor and evaluate the performance and impact of AI systems. Implement feedback loops to ensure ongoing improvement and adherence to governance standards.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of AI governance activities, decisions, and processes. Prepare regular reports for senior management and other stakeholders on the status and effectiveness of AI governance efforts.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven experience in governing AI solutions, encompassing both internally developed and externally sourced solutions.
  • Proven expertise in stakeholder management, with the capability to engage and secure commitment from diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in developing and implementing governance frameworks, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledgeable of AI legislation, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, adept at identifying and addressing governance and compliance issues.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively engaging and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, with an emphasis on accuracy and completeness.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and project management competencies.
  • Relevant certifications in AI, data governance, or related fields are advantageous.

  • Combined they govern across the group
  • Escalate to the board level
