Job description
You will join the Supportability Engineering Department, part of the Service Segment. The department consists of 60 domain experts responsible for the definition, development, implementation, and training of Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) for Thales' Radar Systems and Command & Control Systems.
The department includes the following domains: Logistics Engineering Maintenance Engineering Customer Documentation Customer Training Obsolescence Management
You will be part of the Customer Documentation Team, consisting of 15 Technical Authors dedicated to producing high quality customer-facing documentation for high-tech maritime radar and C2 systems., Develop, maintain, and update Operator, Maintenance, and System Manuals. Research technical specifications and gather expertise from engineers, specialists, and product teams. Test procedures on real systems to validate accuracy and usability. Translate complex concepts into clear, understandable information for end-users. Apply structured documentation methods (XML, CSDB/CMS). Lead documentation projects from initiation to delivery. Contribute to improvements in documentation processes and tooling. Work in an Agile / SCRUM environment. Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams., In this role, you combine technical authoring with a strong DevOps/IT foundation, contributing to documentation integrated into software-rich environments and workflows (DocOps), including systems like TACTICOS.
You will contribute to: Documentation within CI/CD-driven software environments. Procedures that interact with IT subsystems, networks, containers, and back-end processes. Sensor-related and command system documentation involving software and firmware interactions.
Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related domain. Minimum 4 years of experience as a Technical Author or similar role. Strong affinity with electrical systems, hardware schematics, signal flows, and system troubleshooting. Excellent English writing and communication skills. Ability to produce clear, accurate, and consistent documentation. Experience with STE (Simplified Technical English) is a plus. Experience with S1000D v3.0 / v4.1 Data Modules is a plus. Knowledge of XML based documentation, CSDB/CMS environments. Ability to work independently while collaborating well in a team. Structured, analytical, proactive, stress-resistant, and detail-oriented. Willing to work in the eastern part of the Netherlands; willingness to learn Dutch is appreciated., Bachelor's or Master's degree in IT, DevOps, Software Engineering, or a related domain Minimum 3 years of experience as a Technical Author or Technical Documentation Engineer.
Strong IT background with knowledge of: CI/CD (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions) Git version control (GitLab, GitHub, Bitbucket) Build tools (Maven) Nexus / Artifactory repositories Linux shell scripting Experience with STE and S1000D is a plus. Experience with XML, structured documentation, CSDB/CMS. Strong communication skills, especially in technical English. Proactive, analytical, accurate, and capable of leading documentation lifecycles. Ability to work on-site in the eastern part of the Netherlands; openness to learning Dutch is a plus., Strong analytical and structured working style. Ability to maintain overview in complex environments (helicopter view). Stress-resistant, proactive, and curious, with a drive for continuous learning. Strong planning and organization skills. Comfortable working independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
