Job description

Working in Pricing at NFU Mutual is genuinely different. With no external shareholders, our focus is firmly on delivering fair, sustainable outcomes for our customers, supporting communities, protecting livelihoods, and enabling our UK-wide Agency Network to thrive.

We're now at the heart of one of the most significant transformation programmes in our history. Pricing is central to that journey, and this role offers a unique opportunity to shape how data underpins pricing capability for the future.

As Data Manager, you'll sit at the intersection of business-as-usual delivery and strategic transformation. You'll lead a core team of 3-4 Managers, with wider oversight of a broader data capability (circa 6-7 indirect reports), ensuring high-quality, reliable data is delivered to support pricing decisions across the organisation.

Your team won't be producing reports, they enable them. From data extraction and engineering through to feeding advanced pricing models and analytics, your focus will be on building robust, scalable data foundations that empower others to deliver insight.

In addition to your business-as-usual responsibilities, you will be instrumental in advancing major strategic initiatives. These include leading the evolution and migration of the pricing platform, spearheading commercial transformation programmes, enriching and integrating external data, and strengthening the overall data capability within Pricing.

You'll work closely with senior stakeholders across Pricing, IT, and the wider business, building strong relationships to ensure successful delivery within a highly Agile, change-driven environment.

Requirements

You're a people-first data leader who brings both technical credibility and the ability to inspire and align others. You're comfortable leading in a collaborative, non-hierarchical environment, this isn't a top-down culture, and success comes from bringing people with you.

You'll enjoy developing teams, setting clear direction, and creating an environment where individuals feel motivated, supported, and accountable for delivery.

You'll also be confident operating in complex, high-volume environments, where pricing and data are deeply intertwined.

You'll bring:

  • Proven experience leading and developing data engineering teams (including both direct and indirect reports)
  • A strong background in data engineering, with hands-on experience across modern data platforms
  • Demonstrate knowledge of SQL server, Azure and enterprise level MI solutions such as Power BI or Cognos. Experience with R, Python, other RDBMS, Tableau etc. will also be considered
  • Experience supporting complex pricing or data-driven decision environments
  • A track record of delivering within Agile, transformation-led programmes
  • General insurance experience, preferably in a pricing, MI or IT is also essential
