Job description

Are you an experienced Network Infrastructure Engineer interested in designing and delivering campus connectivity within a world-leading university environment?

This role supports the design, installation and operation of Imperial's physical network infrastructure across more than 20 sites in London. The infrastructure underpins teaching, research and operational systems used by over 30,000 users and more than 100,000 connected devices.

You will work on structured cabling, fibre backbone networks and enterprise wireless deployments as part of new building developments and refurbishment programmes led by the Property team.

You will work closely with ICT engineers, M&E consultants and contractors, supporting design development and ensure high quality installations that meet Imperial's infrastructure standards through primarily onsite-based work, including face-to-face design coordination, supervision of contractors, and site inspections to verify installations against Imperial's ICT infrastructure standards.

What you would be doing

  • You will support delivery of network infrastructure upgrades and new implementations, coordinating installations with ICT teams and external contractors while ensuring compliance with ICT infrastructure standards.
  • Your work will support reliable network services for more than 30,000 users and over 100,000 connected devices across Imperial's London campuses.
  • You will develop wireless network designs using tools such as Ekahau and Hamina to support Wi-Fi deployments.
  • You will work with Property teams, M&E consultants and construction partners during building projects, inspecting installations and ensuring compliance with infrastructure standards.
  • You will support connectivity for building management systems and IoT platforms while providing on-site technical support and contributing to the operation and improvement of campus network infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Strong experience designing, building and supporting wired and wireless network infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering physical network infrastructure including structured cabling systems and fibre infrastructure within a large organisation, ensuring compliance with relevant British Standards and overseeing contractor installations.
  • Experience working within construction or estates environments, coordinating ICT infrastructure in building and refurbishment projects.
  • Willingness to work across multiple Imperial campus locations and carrying out regular site visits to coordinate works, supervise installations and inspect infrastructure, both for contractor delivered projects and improvements generated internally.
  • Knowledge of enterprise networking technologies, including switching, routing, VLANs, TCP/IP, DNS and DHCP to support troubleshooting and operational collaboration with the network engineering team.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Understanding of governance, compliance and security standards relevant to enterprise networks.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills and the ability to balance technical and operational priorities.

Benefits & conditions

  • The opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution and be part of our mission to use science for humanity.
  • Benefit from a sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 41 days' annual leave and generous pension schemes).
  • Access to a range of workplace benefits including a flexible working policy from day one, generous family leave packages, on-site leisure facilities and cycle-to-work scheme.
  • Interest-free season ticket loan schemes for travel.
  • Be part of a diverse, inclusive and collaborative work culture with various staff networks and resources to support your personal and professional wellbeing.
