Build and scale a cloud platform supporting global health research
We are supporting a leading organisation working at the forefront of health data and research.
This is an opportunity to join a highly skilled technology team responsible for a large-scale AWS environment supporting critical systems and global research initiatives.
You will play a key role in developing, securing, and evolving a modern cloud platform used by researchers worldwide to improve the understanding, prevention, and treatment of disease.
The role
As an AWS Cloud Engineer, you will take ownership of building and supporting a complex AWS estate, contributing to a major transformation programme and helping shape the future of the organisation's cloud environment .
You will:
- Design, build, and support AWS infrastructure across compute, storage, networking, and serverless services
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation or Terraform) to automate deployments
- Manage and improve cloud security, monitoring, and logging (e.g. CloudTrail, GuardDuty, SIEM integration)
- Support cloud migrations from on-premise environments to AWS
- Optimise performance, availability, and cost across the AWS platform
- Contribute to backup, disaster recovery, and resilience strategies
- Produce clear technical documentation and architectural designs
- Collaborate with engineering, infrastructure, and network teams, * Work on a large-scale AWS environment supporting globally significant research

Requirements
This role is suited to an experienced Cloud Engineer who has worked within complex, production environments.
We're particularly interested in candidates with:
- Strong experience across core AWS services (e.g. EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, Lambda, Route 53, CloudWatch)
- Experience with AWS networking (VPCs, subnets, VPNs, security groups)
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation or Terraform)
- Strong understanding of AWS security best practices
- Experience with monitoring, logging, and performance optimisation
- Scripting experience (Python, Bash, or PowerShell)
- Experience working in operational or platform engineering environments
Nice to have:
- AWS certification (Associate level or above)
- Experience with containers (Docker, Kubernetes, ECS)
- Experience working within regulated or security-focused environments
- Exposure to ISO standards, ITIL, or structured delivery environments
