Job description
Reporting to the Head of IT, the IT Engineer is a key member of the Information Technology team, providing reliable, responsive first-line IT support across the business. This role is fundamental to ensuring the effective operation of Mettis' technology infrastructure, supporting business users, maintaining secure and stable systems, and enabling operational performance across a manufacturing environment.
The post-holder will support, install, maintain, and administer IT systems including end-user hardware, servers, networks, and core business applications. You will work closely with internal departments to resolve technical issues, identify improvement opportunities, and support IT-driven projects. The role also requires significant engagement with third-party suppliers and external support partners.
A focus on cyber security, data protection, and system integrity is essential, ensuring compliance with the Cyber Security Policy and System Security Plan while delivering a high-quality support service.
As a condition of employment, successful candidates are required to satisfy ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) compliance and must fulfil the following before commencing this role: i. Currently hold the legal Right to Work in the UK ii. Fulfil a DBS clearance iii. Provide a consistent 5-year UK domicile iv. Pass Drugs & Alcohol screening at the start of their Mettis employment
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Provide robust, reliable first-line IT support to the business
- Install, maintain, and support desktop and laptop computers, servers, network hardware, and peripherals
- Perform user account administration, including Active Directory and access management
- Support Microsoft 365 administration and associated business applications
- Provide basic ERP system support where required
- Administer the IT call logging system, including reporting and performance monitoring
- Liaise with internal departments to understand support issues and identify improvement opportunities
- Liaise with suppliers and external support partners for purchasing and technical support requirements
- Deliver basic end-user training on IT systems and tools
- Support and participate in IT-related projects aligned to business needs
- Ensure systems, data, and infrastructure are maintained securely in line with cyber security requirements

Requirements
- Previous experience in a similar IT support role or a desire to develop a career in IT within a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Relevant IT qualifications (or working towards) are advantageous, * Problem-solving and analytical skills
- Hardware support experience across desktops, laptops, servers, networking equipment, and peripherals
- Knowledge of desktop and server operating systems
- Awareness of virtualised environments (e.g. VMware)
- Microsoft 365 administration experience
- Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy knowledge
- Familiarity with Windows Update Services (WSUS)
- Backup and restore solutions (e.g. Veeam)
- Proficiency across Microsoft Office applications
- Fibre and Cat5 network support awareness
- VOIP end-user support and administration knowledge
- Significant IT, documentation, and system administration capability
- Planning and project management awareness
- Understanding of cyber security and data protection principles
- Effective communication skills at all levels
- Ability to prioritise workload and manage change
