Job description

We are supporting a leading engineering organisation in the energy sector in their search for an experienced Applications Engineer (Mechanical) to join their team on an initial 6-month contract.

This is a high-impact role focused on the development and deployment of compact rig solutions used in well intervention and decommissioning (P&A) projects across the UKCS and international markets.

You'll play a critical role in bridging engineering design and offshore operations, ensuring solutions are safe, compliant, and fully deployable in real-world environments., Design & Engineering

  • Develop and review mechanical designs for rig-based equipment.
  • Produce and validate 3D models using Inventor and/or SolidWorks.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g. ATEX, Machinery Directive).
  • Create and manage technical documentation for third-party verification.
  • Identify design improvements and cost efficiencies.

Operations Integration

  • Align engineering designs with offshore operational constraints.
  • Support development of:
  • Interface drawings (PFDs, P&IDs, layout drawings)
  • Equipment installation plans (lift plans, deck loading, routing)
  • Work closely with operations teams to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce emissions, and optimise rig deployment.

Testing & Delivery

  • Support FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SIT (Site Integration Testing)
  • Troubleshoot design and integration issues during project execution.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in Oil & Gas
  • Strong background in:
  • Workover rigs / drilling rigs / oilfield equipment
  • Mechanical design & engineering
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (Inventor and/or SolidWorks)
  • Experience with offshore operations or rig integration
  • Strong understanding of engineering standards and compliance
  • Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and engage with stakeholders.

Desirable:

Chartered Engineer status

Offshore certification/experience

Experience with well intervention or P&A projects
