Job description

Job Title: Technical Architect Rate: £625 (Inside IR35) Duration: 6 months Location: Remote - 2 Days Onsite in Leeds Per Month Clearance: BPSS Stages: 1 Stage

Key Responsibilities

  • Design end-to-end technical architectures for large-scale, mission-critical systems.
  • Provide architectural leadership across multiple delivery teams.
  • Ensure solutions align with GDS, and cross-government standards.
  • Define and document architecture using appropriate frameworks and tooling.
  • Lead technical decision-making, including trade-offs and risk assessments.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders including product managers, delivery leads, and security teams.
  • Oversee system integration across Legacy and modern platforms.
  • Ensure compliance with security, data protection, and governance requirements.
  • Support cloud adoption and migration strategies (primarily AWS/Azure).
  • Conduct architecture reviews and provide assurance across programmes.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Technical Architect within large-scale government or regulated environments.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure).
  • Experience designing microservices and distributed systems.
  • Expertise in API design, integration patterns, and event-driven architecture.
  • Solid understanding of DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code.
  • Familiarity with security standards (eg, ISO 27001, NCSC guidelines).
  • Experience with Legacy system modernisation.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in agile delivery environments (Scrum/Kanban).
