Job description
As a Network Engineer, you'll be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation of core network infrastructure, ensuring performance, reliability, and availability across a large-scale environment.
You'll monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot routers, switches, and firewalls, resolving escalated issues and implementing configuration changes in line with best practice. The role also involves supporting new site deployments and contributing to network performance analysis and capacity planning.
Alongside operational responsibilities, you'll have the opportunity to get involved in automation initiatives, working with tools such as Python, Ansible, or Terraform to improve efficiency and scalability. You'll collaborate closely with support teams, senior engineers, and wider technology functions to ensure seamless service delivery.
Requirements
- Solid understanding of networking principles (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP)
- Hands-on experience with routers, switches, and firewalls
- Strong Linux skills
- Experience within a technical support or network support environment
- Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
- Experience supporting or resolving escalated issues (1st/2nd line)
- Strong communication and organisational skills
What would be desirable?
- Experience with Python or other scripting/automation tools
- Familiarity with Ansible, Terraform, or infrastructure-as-code
- Knowledge of routing protocols such as OSPF or BGP
- Experience with network monitoring tools (Grafana, Nagios, LibreNMS)
- Background in ISP, NOC, or data centre environments
- Exposure to network OS such as Arista EOS or MikroTik RouterOS
- Previous on-call or incident response experience
