You will work closely with interdisciplinary and international teams to deliver advanced robotics solutions that support the next generation of industrial automation.

This role is contributing to the German Robotics R&D organization within ABB Robotics in Gilching. Main stakeholders are interdisciplinary engineering teams, international R&D sites, Product management and technology partners.

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Designing, developing and maintaining software systems for controlling robotic platforms, translating high-level system requirements into robust architectures and scalable implementations.
  • Ensuring reliable and secure communication between software components and bringing software modules into production-ready environments.
  • Testing, validating and integrating software components through unit, integration and system testing while contributing to a modern and efficient development environment.
  • Collaborating closely with interdisciplinary team members such as software engineers, UI/UX designers, control engineers and mobile manipulation specialists, as well as with international R&D sites and partners.
  • Driving technology roadmaps and technical decisions while documenting software architectures, algorithms and design choices and sharing knowledge within the team through technical discussions, presentations and workshops.

You will join an international and highly motivated R&D team working on cutting-edge robotics technologies, where you will be able to contribute to innovative solutions such as next-generation mobile, collaborative and industrial robots.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Software Engineering or a related field, with strong academic results.
  • Several years (3+ years) of professional experience in software engineering, ideally within collaborative software projects involving multiple contributors.
  • Strong programming skills in modern C++ combined with solid knowledge of state-of-the-art software development practices.
  • Hands-on experience with modern development environments and workflows including
  • Git, CMake, CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks (e.g., xUnit, GoogleTest), versioning and release management.
  • Solid understanding of software architecture and design principles, including the development, testing and deployment of production-ready software components.
  • Familiarity with Linux and/or Windows environments, containerization technologies such as Docker, and different computer architectures (e.g., ARM, AMD).
  • Fluent English skills, written and spoken; German is beneficial.
