Job description

Data Scientist - 6 months, Coventry - £550 day - Inside IR35

We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist to enhance the organisation's intelligence capability, enabling insight-driven decision-making. This role focuses on organising, analysing, modelling, and interpreting complex datasets, as well as building advanced data products through innovative applications of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Rapidly understand complex business challenges and apply data, AI, and ML techniques to deliver effective solutions.
  • Lead the end-to-end design and delivery of data science projects, from ideation through deployment, monitoring, and ongoing support.
  • Develop and deploy advanced machine learning, statistical, and AI models using scalable cloud platforms (eg, Azure Machine Learning, Databricks).
  • Design and implement AI-powered solutions, including Large Language Models (LLMs) and chatbots.
  • Ensure all models are explainable, ethical, and compliant with regulatory and organisational standards.
  • Manage the full model lifecycle, including monitoring, retraining, and performance optimisation.
  • Establish and maintain best practices for model governance, versioning, and documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with data engineering teams to build robust, scalable data pipelines and ensure high data quality.

Skills & Experience

  • Expert proficiency in Python and SQL, with solid software engineering practices (modular design, testing, CI/CD).
  • Deep expertise across machine learning techniques, including NLP, time-series forecasting, ensemble methods, and deep learning.
  • Experience developing chatbot solutions and working with LLMs.
  • Strong experience with Azure cloud architecture (Azure ML, Azure Synapse) and containerisation tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • 3-5+ years of professional experience in data science or a related field, with a track record of delivering impactful solutions.
  • Strong understanding of CRISP-DM, MLOps, Agile methodologies, and service management frameworks such as ITIL.

Contract Details

  • Location: Coventry (with some travel required)
  • Duration: 6 months
  • Start: ASAP
  • Rate: £500 per day (Inside IR35)
