Job description

The role of the Senior Technical Engineer is to support the IT Technical Manager in the smooth day to day running of the firm's technical architecture including maintenance, configuration and problem solving on NetApp, Citrix and VMware technologies. Your senior expertise and MCSE accreditation will also make you an expert in the Microsoft technology stack and enable you to deputise for the IT Technical manager where required. Additionally you will act as a technical consultant on numerous internal capital projects as well as implementing technical and infrastructure related projects in line with business needs. Finally, as the technical subject matter expert you will also act as the primary escalation point for technical queries from the Service Desk to assist in resolving customer incidents inline with agreed SLAs.

Within this fast paced environment you would need to receive, prioritise, document and actively resolve customer requests whilst striving to deliver the highest level of customer service.

Operational Management

  • To ensure the on-going operational efficiency of all aspects of the firms IT systems. Specifically relating to the MS technology stack as well as NetApp/Citrix/VMware technologies

  • Deputise for the IT Technical Manager when required to do so. This may include meeting attendance and occasionally other management responsibilities

  • Access software updates, drivers, knowledge bases, and FAQ resources on the Internet to aid in problem resolution and update knowledge base with new identified fixes

  • To maintain network and PC operating systems, and to support server and client PC software

  • To assist and encourage the development of other members of the IT Team in terms of technical skills transfer

  • Monitor and report upon risks and issues in terms of capacity planning and network operations

  • Responsible for the operation and integrity of the firm's data backup solutions and to ensure that policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to at all times

  • Undertake any other tasks reasonably required in the course of performing the job, as set out by the IT Technical Manager

  • Occasional travel to other Browne Jacobson sites will be required

Requirements

  • MCSE/MCITP accredited
  • Experience of VMware VSphere 4 and NetApp SAN technologies
  • Experience of Windows Server configuration and administration (2003/2008 R2).
  • Experience of Active Directory domain administration.
  • Experience of Microsoft Exchange 2010.
  • SQL 2005/2008 experience, including maintenance plans, backups and restores.
  • The successful candidate should have excellent knowledge of ITIL processes and have previously worked within an ITIL environment.
