Requirements
NATS (National Air Traffic Services) are looking for a a senior technical authority with strong UTM (Unmanned Traffic Management) experience to lead the architecture and technical design of software-intensive, safety-critical systems. The role focuses on big data platforms, API-driven services, and cloud-native architectures supporting UTM/OpenAir capabilities.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong UTM knowledge, including:
- SORA / UK SORA, JARUS, ASTM F3548, Remote ID, U-space
- Experience designingAPI-first systems:
- REST, event-driven / pub-sub architectures
- OpenAPI / AsyncAPI standards
- Proven background with big data and complexdatasets, including:
- Geo-spatial and/or time-series data
- Data modelling at scale
- Cloud-native architecture experience:
- Kubernetes, containerisation, microservices
- AWS / Azure / GCP
- Scalable, highly available, multi-region designs
- Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Ansible or similar)
- Understanding of safety-critical and regulated environments, including assurance considerations (e.g. CAP670, ED-109A, DO-178C).
Desirable Experience:
- SWIM concepts and aviation data standards
- Ability to understand geo-spatial / time-series databases (such as PostGIS, timescaledb) and Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards - both raster and vector formats
- Advanced API testing and automation
- Distributed systems and federated architectures
- Predictive modelling or algorithmic complexity awareness
