Job description
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Cloud Architect to join our team in the greater DMV area, supporting the Army National Guard., * Lead design, planning, and modernization of enterprise cloud environments aligned to DoD and Army directives; develop and execute migration, consolidation, and hosting strategies.
- Oversee end-to-end engineering lifecycle for cloud-hosted systems: requirements, design, integration, testing, deployment, sustainment, configuration/change control, and decommissioning.
- Define system baselines, disaster recovery/continuity strategies, and resiliency architectures across multi-environment (on-prem, cloud, hybrid) deployments.
- Ensure cloud designs incorporate RMF/ATO requirements, STIG/CSG application, logging/monitoring, IAM/Zero Trust controls, and other cybersecurity/infrastructure controls.
- Drive prototyping, proof-of-concepts, and performance benchmarking to validate new technologies and measure innovation outcomes against performance criteria.
- Produce technical artifacts: architecture diagrams, CONOPS, migration plans, cybersecurity/migration strategies, test plans, and executive decision packages.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams (DevSecOps, network, security, data, operations, vendors) to ensure interoperability, operational handover, and mission alignment.
- Advise senior leadership on cloud cost/performance tradeoffs, modernization roadmaps, risk posture, and COAs for portfolio decisions.
- Implement governance, automation, and processes for repeatable migrations, configuration management, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 6 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 3 years with PhD
- Active TS/SCI clearance.
- Candidate must meet ONE:
- Master's degree or higher in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field; OR
- Equivalent documented, commensurate experience in enterprise cloud architecture within regulated or DoD contexts.
- Demonstrated experience (typically 3 years in cloud architecture/engineering) delivering secure, enterprise-scale cloud solutions.
- Hands-on expertise with at least one major cloud provider (AWS/Azure/GCP), cloud migration methodologies, IaC/automation, CI/CD integration, logging/monitoring, and DR/COOP design.
- Strong knowledge of RMF/ATO processes, DoD/Army cloud policy, STIG/CSG requirements, and secure cloud configuration practices.
- Proven ability to produce technical designs, CONOPS, ROMs/COAs, and executive briefings., * Professional certification: AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
- Experience with Zero Trust implementation, container orchestration (Kubernetes), service mesh, and cloud-native security patterns.
- Prior DoD/Army/ARNG experience, familiarity with DISA/DoDIN guidance, and experience preparing RMF/eMASS evidence packages.
- Experience with cost optimization, chargeback models, multi-environment federation, and large-scale migration program leadership.
Benefits & conditions
$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
