Job description

Director of Technology is responsible for the development and implementation of a strategic vision in all areas of technology for the district, including the integration of digital tools and best practices into curriculum and administrative systems. The Director must be both a big picture thinker and hands-on-implementer, and engage with administrators, educators, support personnel, parents, and students to extend the responsible and creative use of technology., ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Employee must have the ability to perform the following essential functions on a timely basis with or without reasonable accommodations.

  1. Work in collaboration with the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and District Technology Committee.
  • Assist in the development of the district technology plan
  • Preparation and management of technology budget
  • Coordinate the design, implementation, utilization, and maintenance of school district local area networks, wide area networks, file servers, and other networked devices
  • Provide advice for competitive grant applications to secure funding for district technology initiatives
  • Experience with range of software, hardware, and operations systems (Windows, Mac, IOS)
  • Proven record of accomplishment in technology planning and technology personnel management, ideally in K-12 academic setting
  • Understanding of data base management systems and data structures
  • Successful technology integration into a classroom setting
  • Ability to supervise and mentor technical employees to high performance
  1. Analyzes complex technology needs presented by the user community and/or administration and board members and recommends technical solutions.
  2. Ensures the consistency and maintainability of existing applications by creating, maintaining, and enforcing standards/procedures for implementing technical solutions.
  3. Directs operations in executing production tasks according to a documented schedule that meets or exceeds district expectations.
  4. Produces detailed timeline for each application release and implements effective project control by monitoring the progress of the software release and reporting the status.
  5. Directs and prioritizes the workload of subordinate personnel.
  6. Reviews all designs, code and unit test plans where applicable.
  7. Approves all business requirements before the technical solution.
  8. Participates in all hardware and software evaluations and maintains vendor contracts.
  9. Directs education programs for her/his staff.
  10. Perform liaison duties between users, operations, network, and programming personnel in the areas of systems design, modifications, or troubleshooting.
  11. Conducts interviews and makes recommendations for new hires, consultants, and/or replacement Technology Department personnel.
  12. Responsible for inventory, repair records, location of all technological equipment, and maintain a resource catalog of software, material, and plans for replacement and/or upgrade of technology.
  13. Provides the direction for District's data and cybersecurity protection, and oversees Technology governance and policies.
  14. Develops District security strategy, security awareness programs, security architecture, and security incident response.
  15. Provides strategic risk guidance for IT projects, including evaluation and recommendation of technical controls.
  16. Develops, maintains and publishes up-to-date security policies, standards and guidelines.
  17. Oversees training and dissemination of security policies and practices.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent.

Supervisory Responsibility: This position manages all employees of the Technology Department and is responsible for the performance, management and hiring of the employees within that department.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. 260 days, 8 hours per day
  2. Salary and benefits according to the negotiated agreement between the Board of School Directors and the Unionville-Chadds Ford Act 93 Group.

  1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain a stationary position and move about to access multiple classrooms, file cabinets, office equipment, etc.
  2. The position requires the employee to frequently operate a computer and other office equipment such as a copier, fax, and printer, etc..
  3. Ability to lift and/or exert up to 20 lbs. of force to occasionally move objects.
  4. The position requires meeting deadlines with severe time constraints, interacting with staff and the public, and occasional irregular or extended work hours.
  5. This job requires the ability to observe, inspect, identify, and determine accuracy of written documentation and fine details.
  6. Some/occasional local travel may be necessary: Must be able to provide own transportation to school related functions/meetings, community agencies and schools throughout our service area.
  7. The employee is frequently required to communicate and interact in person and by phone or e-mail with the public, students, parents, staff, other administrators, board members, and community agencies.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill, and/or ability necessary.

  1. Bachelor's Degree required - Computer Science or Technology major preferred
  2. Advanced Degree in Educational Technology or related field preferred
  3. Minimum five years experience in Information Technology management in a medium-sized school district or enterprise environment
  4. Effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with School Board, Administration, and staff.
  5. Ability to express self clearly and concisely in oral and written communications, and to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups.
  6. Well organized with good time management skills.
  7. Knowledge of academic environment, procedures, and policies.
  8. Expertise in conveying complex subjects in simple concise terms
  9. Persuasive, professional leadership approach
  10. Ability to originate strategic thinking
  11. Must successfully complete and maintain compliance with all federal and state background and criminal record check requirements.
  12. Candidate must adhere to all local, state, federal, and school code requirements for employment.
