Job description

The primary purpose of the User Support Specialist IV is to support the end-user community in the effective access and use of University information resources and compliance with infrastructure and operating standards.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Provides desktop, laptop, and mobile device support. Requires an in-depth knowledge of computer hardware and operating systems, including Windows & Mac, and mobile operating systems; computer software and desktop applications, including Office; and computer peripherals.
  • Provides the technical support for the UBHC.
  • Provides general problem diagnosis and support for printers.
  • Provides general problem diagnosis and support for departmental shares.
  • Installs systems, networks and application software to support hard-wired, wireless and remote connectivity.
  • Installs workstation hardware and software (Bomgar and Dell KACE).
  • Develops and maintains application and system documentation. Prepares documentation and informational materials for non-technical users.
  • Stays up-to-date with regard to standards and technology direction.
  • Assists clients in understanding and accessing network-connected resources at all levels within the University's network.
  • Performs hardware repairs.
  • Creates computer images for new computers or re-imaging of computers., Working Hours 830AM - 5:00PM Standard Hours 37.50 Daily Work Shift Work Arrangement Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 or the applicable provisions of relevant collective negotiations agreements, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Business Administration plus one (1) year of experience in the use or support of desktop computing.
  • Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.

Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Mac, PC, computer peripherals and of operating systems (Mac, Android, and Windows).
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and solve problems.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills suitable for "service environment."

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Linux a plus.

Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC), established in 1971, offers a full continuum of evidence based behavioral health and addiction services for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors throughout New Jersey. UBHC's 1,060 experienced behavioral health professionals and support staff are dedicated to treatment, prevention, and education.
