Job description

This Lead Data Engineer position is a member of ITD - Child Welfare. This position reports to Jason Dempsey, Applications Systems Manager. This role will be responsible for designing and managing the data, analytics, and reporting ecosystem that powers data-driven decision-making for the Child Welfare Program, from Salesforce data ingestion through Azure Synapse to advanced Power BI solutions., * Strong command of SQL, Python, and distributed data processing frameworks (Spark, Databricks, Synapse, EMR, BigQuery, etc.).

  • Designs and maintains Power BI reports and dashboards.
  • Produces clear architectural diagrams, design documents, and operational runbooks.
  • Engineers and monitors Synapse pipelines to ingest, transform, and validate data.
  • Leads BI/data engineering initiatives, mentors staff, and enforces testing, governance, and security standards., The Office of the Secretary serves as the executive leadership arm of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS), guiding the Department's mission to improve the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians. The IT division (ITD) is one of the divisions that report to the Operational Excellence portfolio. The ITD division comprises four sections: Implementation and Operations, Strategy and Workforce, Enterprise Technology, and Vendor and Finance. ITD offers the following services but not limited to implementations, operations, project/portfolio management, infrastructure, consulting, business division liaison, digital transformation, IT strategy, enterprise technology, IT contract and vendor management, and data office services., * Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Bachelor's degree in computer science or an IT related field or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of progressive experience in business application consulting or development, Associate degree in computer science or an IT related field or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of progressive experience in business application consulting or development, High School or General Education Development (GED) diploma and eight years of experience in business application consulting or development, An equivalent combination of education and experience
