Job description
The Champlain Valley School District (CVSD) is seeking a full-time, exempt Network Administrator. We are looking for a proactive, forward-thinking IT professional to assist with coordinating and maintaining our hybrid network infrastructure and cloud ecosystems.
This position is critical to ensuring a secure, high-performance, and reliable digital learning environment that maximizes instructional effectiveness and operational efficiency for our students and staff. Primary Responsibilities
- Serve as a domain administrator for Google Workspace for Education and Windows, managing the user lifecycle, organizational units (OUs), Google core services (Classroom, Drive, Gmail), and third-party integrations.
- Manage and optimize LAN/WAN/WLAN, Windows Server environments, Hyper-V virtualization, and cloud-managed hardware (SD-WAN, wireless access points, switches, firewalls).
- Implement CIPA-compliant web filtering (e.g., Sophos, Securly), monitor security logs, and respond to potential threats or breaches.
- Create migration plans to transition legacy on-premise services to the cloud while maintaining and testing automated backup systems and incident response plans.
- Develop and enforce policies regarding data privacy (FERPA/SOPA/HIPAA) and cybersecurity insurance. Train staff on Google Workspace tools and cybersecurity best practices like phishing awareness.
- Oversee network and cloud-based print management systems (e.g., PaperCut, Mobility Print).
- Develop relationships with outside vendors, evaluate SaaS and hardware solutions, and manage E-Rate documentation, bid lists, and procurement.
- Train and direct the activities of IT technicians and collaborate proactively with district staff, administrators, and school board members.

Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred. 3-5 years of experience in network administration (ideally in a K-12 environment or large multi-site organization), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Deep familiarity with ChromeOS management, Windows/macOS integration, and virtualized environments.
- A valid Driver's License is required. Preferred certifications include Google Professional Collaboration Engineer, CompTIA Network+/Security+, or vendor-specific certifications (Cisco CCNA, Aruba, Fortinet).
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex "inter-system" issues and arrive at logical, common-sense decisions.
- Ability to translate "tech-speak" into plain English for a variety of audiences, including students, faculty, and administrators.
- High levels of integrity regarding data privacy, self-control in high-stress situations, adaptability, and strong attention to detail.
