Job description

Builds, configures, and manages virtual servers and guests, escalating issues when necessary. Conducts server builds, installs equipment in data centers, and maintains systems, firmware, and hardware drivers. Manages direct attached server storage, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams for SAN/NAS storage, and handles fault management. Maintains accurate equipment and software inventory records and system documentation. Monitors backup jobs daily, performs manual backups, tape changes, and troubleshooting, and plans for capacity growth. Facilitates understanding and management of HVAC, UPS, PDU, and humidity/temperature controls in data centers, ensuring compliance with corporate standards. Maintains manufacturer-supported operating system levels, plans for system upgrades, and resolves operating system issues. Solves service delivery and performance problems related to servers, virtual infrastructure, or data center infrastructure, and updates help desk tickets. Communicates and coordinates downtime processes with affected parties, prepares for downtime events, and delivers post-assessment communication. Participates in and adheres to established change management policies and processes, submitting change controls as required. Prioritizes multiple projects and issues, meets deadlines, and responds promptly to assignments, working additional hours as needed. Actively communicates relevant information to supervisors and team members, submits status reports, and enters time in the project accounting system. Requirements

  • Fundamental knowledge of business, accounting, management, & clinical software applications is recommended.
  • Understanding of networking concepts is necessary, including LAN/WAN technologies, network equipment, protocols, & other communication systems.
  • Well-founded knowledge of systems administration concepts including security, management, deployment, and maintenance of diverse operating system platforms.
  • Well-founded knowledge of VmWare administration.
  • Strong interpersonal skills & positive attitude towards work, peers, and management.
  • Strong customer service & support skills.
  • Must have the capacity to learn, grow, and develop through self-initiated interest and efforts.
  • Must have the ability to work well with people from many different disciplines, with varying levels of technical abilities.
  • Excellent written & oral communication skills.
  • Ability to train and educate others.
  • Must have the ability to learn new environments, design systems, and develop solutions with little or no documentation.
  • Strong project management skills Preferred.
  • Basic understanding of SQL Administration (install, backup, restore) Preferred.

Education:

  • Bachelor's [Preferred]
  • High School Grad or Equiv [Required]

Field of Study:

  • Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education

Work Experience:

  • 3+ in a it healthcare environment [Preferred]
  • 5+ in heterogeneous systems including windows server, unix/aix, linux, & os/400 and in scripting or programming languages including c or c++, vbscript, and shell scripting [Preferred]
  • 5+ in information technology and system administration [Required]
