Are you passionate about securing complex networks and leading enterprise-scale infrastructure initiatives? Join our dynamic Network Security Operations team as a Tier 3 Network Security Engineer. In this senior-level role, you'll be at the forefront of designing, implementing, and supporting secure, resilient, and scalable network solutions for North Carolina State Government agencies., * Diagnose and resolve complex network problems and improve network performance and reliability
- Provide technical leadership and direction for security services initiatives
- Support and troubleshoot existing network infrastructure, routers, switches, IPS, various vendor firewalls, and load balancers
- Participate in customer consulting meetings to gather business requirements and developed detailed designs based on those requirements
- Participate in Incident Response activities

About the Division:
The Network Security Services team is part of Enterprise Operations. Enterprise Ops provides enterprise data networking systems and services as needed to support the business needs of all agencies, schools, and various entities that NCDIT supports. The Network Security team evaluates, develops, tests, acquires, builds, provides service lifecycle management and multi-tier technical support of complex, statewide, inter-agency data, security, and network systems.
Requirements
Do you have experience in VPN?, Do you have a High school diploma or GED?, * Advanced Network Security and Firewall Expertise - experience with enterprise-grade firewalls such as Cisco and Palo Alto & familiarity with VPNs, intrusion prevention systems, and network perimeter defense

Enterprise Infrastructure and Data Center Technologies - hands-on experience with data center switches and routing protocols like OSPF and BGP & proficiency with F5 LTM/GTM or equivalent load balancing technologies plus strong understanding of VMware NSX for network virtualization

Network Monitoring and Operational Support - experience supporting SolarWinds or similar network monitoring platforms & experience troubleshooting and optimizing network performance using monitoring and diagnostic tools, Some state job postings say you can qualify by an "equivalent combination of education and experience." Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or an IT related field or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of progressive experience in network engineering;
or
Associate degree in Computer Science or an IT related field or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of progressive experience in network engineering;
or
High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and seven years of experience in networking or related area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Benefits & conditions
Recruitment Range: $110,000 - $137,000
Typical work schedule will be 8-5 with some on-call and after-hours as needed. This position may be eligible for hybrid remote work in accordance with state policy and the agency's remote work program, but it does require the candidate to physically be in the office at least two days each week.
The position is designated Statutory Exempt and is exempt from the State Human Resources Act.
