The Vice President of Information Technology - Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Grand Rapids Community College is a key leader for academic, administrative, and media technologies. Key responsibilities include participating in strategic governance processes, leading IT planning aligned with college goals, developing an IT structure, ensuring information security, compliance with laws, managing disaster recovery, and recommending investments in IT systems. The CIO will also develop and track IT budgets, oversee hardware and software contracts, assess improvements to the IT organization, stay updated on emerging technologies, maintain relationships with external entities, supervise IT staff, communicate risks, justify IT spending, gather stakeholder requirements for new technologies, and ensure service delivery through monitoring IT systems.

Requirements
Educational qualifications require a Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or business administration, while a Master's degree in a technology-related field is preferred. Work experience should include ten years in IT, with at least five years in IT management at a large organization, and preferably five years in higher education. Candidates should have experience in strategic planning, enterprise software applications, and project management.
Skills needed include knowledge of business processes, understanding of computer systems integration, excellent project management capabilities, and the ability to apply IT solutions to business problems. In-depth knowledge of IT laws, human resource management principles, and the ability to coach and develop IT staff are also essential.
