Job description

We are seeking a junior- to mid-level data/ETL professional who can move data between systems, build and maintain ETL workflows, query and tune SQL, and interpret business requirements even when they are not fully defined. This role is approximately 85% technical and 15% requirements/coordination., * Building, maintaining, and monitoring ETL workflows

  • SQL querying and basic performance tuning
  • Data cleanup and transformation
  • Moving data between systems
  • Database and pipeline maintenance tasks (e.g., upgrades, flow checks)

15% Coordination

  • Clarifying and refining requirements
  • Light project coordination
  • Communicating and partnering with the IE Department
  • Managing updates between IT and requestors

Requirements

  • Strong SQL querying skills
  • Ability to pull and push data between systems
  • Light performance tuning
  • No heavy development required, but must be fluent in SQL fundamentals and comfortable working directly in databases

Python Scripting (Junior Level OK)

  • Used for data cleanup
  • Data movement between systems
  • Automation of simple tasks and workflows

ETL Workflow Knowledge

  • Understanding of ETL concepts and data movement patterns
  • Experience with GUI-based ETL tools (no need to build pipelines from scratch), * Ability to clarify and translate incomplete requirements from the Innovation & Experience (IE) team
  • Sometimes requirements will include exact tables/fields; other times, the team provides only an outcome ("I need X, Y, Z") and the analyst determines how to deliver it

Communication Skills

  • Serves as a liaison between IT and the Innovation & Experience group

Process Adherence

  • Must be able to follow established city processes, especially for:
  • Firewall requests
  • Data movement approvals
  • Required documentation and governance, * PowerShell experience
  • Exposure to tools such as Boomi, Snowflake, WhereScape, or Tableau
  • These can be learned on the job; admins handle the heavier configuration
  • Experience working with firewall processes in a medium/large organization
  • Not configuring firewalls-just understanding procedural steps and paperwork
  • Light project coordination or business analysis skills
  • Clarifying requirements, communicating status, organizing tasks
  • Represents only about 15% of the role
