Job description

Insight Global is seeking a Network Engineer to work hybrid supporting one of our large financial education clients. The Network Engineer is responsible for ensuring the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of all network infrastructure systems that support and protect client business functions globally. The scope includes legacy Cisco products, Meraki and Cloud based infrastructure. The position activities range from high level design through detailed implementation, management, monitoring, and optimization. The position focus is on design support, operational stability, and global infrastructure WAN\LAN monitoring. On larger business process centric projects, this Network Engineer acts as a subject matter expert and technical team lead. The position interacts with both technical and non-technical internal customers and coordinates work with external vendors. The Network Engineer applies communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to identify, communicate, and resolve complex issues impacting IT systems. The position will be hybrid, with onsite as required in Charlottesville VA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Manage operationally focused projects within the IT Operations department
  • Serve as project lead for IT efforts involving an operational technology focus
  • Manage communication plan, budget, schedule, and vendors on IT Operations network projects
  • Serve as the network subject matter expert for operational IT projects
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system design, device configuration, monitoring processes, and management tasks.
  • Accountable for operational technology process analysis and design.
  1. Operationalize LAN/WAN circuits and assist in network topology redesigns.
  • Provide technical expertise on designs and assist with optimization efforts.
  • Research, test, and source circuits and infrastructure devices from vendors.
  • Recommend and implement system level improvements in existing network topology.
  • Collaborate with IT managers to ensure network operations mesh with overall business requirements and schedules.
  1. Install, upgrade and manage network equipment.
  • Determine the priorities of needed upgrades and make decisions on the appropriate equipment to use.
  • Install and configure routers, switches, load balancers, firewalls and other network equipment.
  • Perform hardware upgrades and system software upgrades.
  • Collaborate with and coordinate external vendors as necessary.
  1. Resolve network problems and maintain stability of the network.
  • Investigate and resolve complex system related performance problems - tier 3 support.
  • Guide other staff in routine management tasks and minor issue resolution.
  • Develop capacity planning processes to ensure a stable and scalable network.
  1. Monitor, maintain, support and optimize all networked software and associated operating systems.
  • Oversee enterprise-wide network system monitoring processes and perform daily device checks.
  • Operationalize maintenance and support schedules for all network devices.
  • Investigate data flow bottlenecks and implement changes to optimize efficient, effective data transfer.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years experience in network maintenance and monitoring with minimum 2 years experience in LAN/WAN/Cloud design/troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Palo Alto Firewall Technology.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in Cisco Enterprise-class switches/routers,, protocol optimization, network management systems, VPN implementations, Azure or other cloud based architecture, and network security required.
  • Familiarity with remote control access solutions (Terminal Server, Virtual Desktop or Citrix) desired.
  • Applied experience with operations and management best practices for Cisco SDWAN networks supporting voice, data and video.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • CCNA, CCNP, or relevant IT networking certification.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including written and verbal.
  • Ability to create new and unique ideas and an entrepreneurial spirit a plus.
  • High level of organizational and time management skills.
  • Willingness to ask questions rather than just follow directions is required.
