Job description
Join a dynamic team as a Network Firewall Engineer supporting a leading healthcare system in Richmond, VA. This onsite role offers the opportunity to design and implement robust firewall solutions, enhance network security, and collaborate with seasoned IT professionals. Be part of an innovative environment committed to excellence in patient care and technology., * Design, configure, and implement firewall solutions (preferably Palo Alto) to meet security and business needs
- Perform firewall upgrades, migrations, and security monitoring
- Troubleshoot network security issues efficiently using tools like Wireshark and packet flow analysis
- Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams to optimize network performance and security posture
- Mentor and assist junior security engineers in best practices and configurations
- Maintain detailed documentation of firewall configurations and security procedures
Requirements
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience managing network security and firewalls, with Palo Alto preferred
- Strong networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF)
- Proficiency with troubleshooting tools such as Wireshark, traceroute, ping, and knowledge of network protocols
- Security+ certification or equivalent security knowledge, including threat detection and access control
- Experience configuring rules, NAT, and VPNs on firewalls and routers
- Basic scripting skills with Python or Ansible are a plus
- Ability to diagnose and resolve network and security issues swiftly and accurately
- Associate's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification
- Experience with ticketing systems and documented security procedures
