The company is scaling its engineering team and hiring multiple Senior Backend Software Engineers / Staff Engineers to help define its technical foundation.
The Opportunity
This is a foundational backend role in a small, high?impact engineering team. You'll own the design and implementation of end?to?end agentic workflows, working directly with customers to automate operations and modernise a traditionally low?tech industry.
This is true zero?to?one engineering, high autonomy, high responsibility, and meaningful technical challenges from day one.
What You'll Be Doing
- Design and ship end?to?end backend workflows that automate core insurance operations (collections, renewals, carrier integrations)
- Integrate with disparate, low?tech, and unreliable external systems, building robust abstractions on top
- Work directly with customers to gather feedback, iterate quickly, and translate technical concepts for non?technical stakeholders
- Build greenfield backend systems, extending an existing browser automation platform
- Collaborate closely with the team through system design and whiteboarding in a high?stakes, regulated domain
Requirements
- 4-15 years of backend engineering experience (ideal range: 7-15 years)
- Senior or Staff?level engineer with a proven record of shipping production systems
- Recent experience in an early?stage or Series A/B Start-up
- Background in insurance, fintech, healthcare, or other regulated industries is a plus
Core Technical Skills
- Strong backend engineering fundamentals
- Proficiency in modern backend languages (TypeScript preferred)
- Experience with automation, browser automation, web scraping, or creative data extraction
- Actively using modern AI?assisted development tools such as Claude Code or Cursor
- Experience designing systems that interact with inconsistent or messy external data sources
Nice to Haves
- Experience with Python, Ruby, or JavaScript
- Familiarity with agentic workflows or AI?driven automation
- Exposure to infrastructure or systems supporting high?reliability automation
