Job description

Assists the District to utilize computing technology (hardware and software) to increase effectiveness, reduce costs, improve instruction and learning and improve use of professional and clerical time to the ultimate benefit of all educational programs. Assist the District in implementing and maintaining computer networks in schools and in the District offices. Reports to the District Network Administrator., * Repair/Troubleshoot problems related to desktop and laptop computers, Chromebooks, iPads, touch panel boards, door security systems, and camera security systems.

  • Input devices-keyboards, mice, microphone, and webcams.
  • Output devices-printers, speakers, monitors, internal/external hard drives, flash drives.
  • Malware disinfection and other performance issues.
  • Installation and maintenance of operating systems, device drivers, and other school-related software.
  • Preventative Maintenance and responds to user requests for hardware repair and operational assistance.
  • Maintain a District-wide inventory of computing hardware and peripherals, and licensed software used in the District.
  • Utilize computers and computer systems for the maintenance and preparation of various reports and records.
  • Provide technical assistance to users, via telephone, remote connection and /or in person.
  • Contact vendors as needed for repair and servicing of computers, Chromebooks, iPads, and technology components.
  • Provides training for employees as needed.
  • Serves as liaison with schools and departments in maximizing the use of automated technology.
  • Revise and document programming activities as necessary.
  • Maintain sufficient system documentation.
  • Basic troubleshooting of VoIP phones and devices.
  • Basic understanding of networking (routing, switching, and wireless networking).
  • Schedule maintenance of equipment and procure emergency backup elsewhere, if necessary.
  • Attends meetings and seminars as directed.

Requirements

High school diploma with two years technical school or computer related servicing and experience with computer networks; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Knowledge:

Extensive knowledge of stand-alone and networked computers and peripheral devices, hardware, software, and operations (Active Directory, Microsoft, IOS, LAN, WAN). Knowledge of related software applications being use by end users. Knowledge of the records and reports which must be prepared and maintained. Knowledgeable in the use and operation of computers/networks and the entry and maintenance of related information and data. Possesses knowledge of effective training methods.

Skills/Efforts:

Ability to understand and execute moderately complex oral and written instructions. Ability to understand and apply district policies and procedures. Ability to provide effective training, guidance and instruction to equipment users. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, staff employees and the general public. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work with faculty, staff, and students with a team player mentality. Ability to perform duties effectively and accurately while maintaining schedules and deadlines. Skilled in applying responsible attention to detail. Ability to prepare and maintain as assortment of records and reports. Ability to use general office equipment such as a computer, calculator, etc. Ability to safely operate a vehicle.

Must be able to work in dusty environment., While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk and reach with hands and arms and bend and twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person. The employee must frequently drive to different schools in the District. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 90 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision. Employee must be able to distinguish the difference between bells, buzzers, beeps, etc. A valid SC Driver's License and personal vehicle are required.
