Job description
The Quality Assurance Technician is based at the Totowa, NJ plant and reports to the Quality Assurance Manager. This position is performing, in an efficient and timely manner, all standard analytical tests on raw materials, intermediate premixes and finished goods samples. The technician also prepares and ships customer samples upon request. This is a 2nd or 3rd shift position. Essential Functions
- Follow all GMP's (Good Manufacturing Practices), FSMA, Safety, and Environmental regulations as well as company policies.
- Maintain a positive attitude. Focus on the customer, teamwork, and quality productivity.
- Give recommendations to improve workplace safety, efficiency, and to better serve the customer.
- Perform manufacturing facility quality inspections.
- Complete/Review deviations as needed.
- Send information pertaining to SCARS to the document control specialist.
- Verify/perform metal detector audits for all production centers.
- Communicate with production and management to ensure proper set-ups for metal detectors.
- Communicate all nonconformities to management and production.
- Perform RCA's and CAPA's on product holds.
- Perform line audits, GMP audits, and glass, brittle plastic and ceramics audits as requested.
- Coordinate work orders for metal detector malfunctions, findings during glass, brittle plastics, and ceramics audits, and as a result of GMP findings.
- Perform allergen verification activities for all production centers.
- Perform inspections of screens, magnets, and tailings.
- Duties, responsibilities and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice., * Duties are performed in both laboratory and manufacturing plant settings.
- The laboratory environment is maintained between 65°F and 85°F.
- Indoor production areas that are not temperature-controlled may range from 45°F to 110°F, depending on weather conditions.
- Work may involve exposure to hazardous, corrosive, or flammable chemicals, requiring the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, lab coats, and use of fume hoods.
- Work may occasionally require being outdoors or in non-climate-controlled areas.
- Work may expose you to common airborne or surface food allergens and other sensitizing substances, including, but not limited to, wheat, soy, eggs, dairy, and sesame, during the handling, mixing, storage, transport of materials, or when accessing the production floor.
Requirements
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Bio-Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology, Microbiology or a related scientific field preferred.
- 1-2 years of experience in a quality assurance, quality control, or laboratory environment preferred.
- Strong understanding of basic lab techniques, analytical testing, and quality control principles.
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), test methods, and quality system requirements with accuracy and consistency.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, with the ability to record, analyze, and interpret data.
- Strong reading, writing, and math skills to perform calculations, complete documentation, and interpret technical information.
- Ability to work safely and comply with all laboratory safety and environmental requirements.
- Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail with the ability to identify deviations, out-of-spec results, or abnormal product conditions.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Experience working in accordance with laboratory SOPs, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and food safety/quality systems (HACCP, GMPs, SQF). PCQI certification a plus., * Requires frequent standing, walking, kneeling, bending, climbing, pulling, pushing, lifting, grasping, reaching (both above and below shoulder level), and repetitive motions.
- Must be able to verbally communicate, hear, and visually perceive to perform laboratory and quality assurance tasks safely and accurately.
- Must be able to occasionally move and lift up to 55 lbs.

This range may be modified in the future. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, performance, location and business or organizational needs. The base salary range for this role is $23.00 to $25.00. In addition, we offer:
