Job description
This is senior level lead administrative, professional and technical engineering work responsible for the operational management and reliability of the County's enterprise data center environment(s). The incumbent serves as the primary operational lead for data center activities, ensuring continuous availability of infrastructure services through coordination of facilities operations, vendor-managed platform services, and enterprise infrastructure support functions.
Responsibilities include oversight of data center operations, coordination of environmental and power systems impacting computing services, management of vendor contracts supporting mainframe operations, and coordination of equipment installations and operational activities supporting County IT services. The position works closely with infrastructure, network, security, and application teams to maintain operational stability and ensure infrastructure readiness to meet County service delivery needs.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Associate Director for Enterprise Architecture and is evaluated based on operational effectiveness, reliability of supported systems, and the ability to ensure continuity of critical technology services.
About the Agency
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides support for all of the agencies, departments, and branches of County government. The OIT Service Desk provides information technology support and maintenance services to Prince George's County personnel. The Office of Information Technology is wholly dedicated to aligning technology efforts to support the strategic goals of the County. OIT will provide leadership, expertise, and resources in the ideation, development, and deployment of innovative technologies and streamlined processes to improve government efficiency, business interaction, and citizen access to government information and services.
Examples of Work

Manages day-to-day operational activities within the County's enterprise data center environment, including coordination of equipment installations, moves, add, and changes, and ensuring operational readiness of computing infrastructure supporting County services.

Serves as the operational lead for data center activities, coordinating with infrastructure teams, facilities personnel, and vendors to maintain reliable operations of enterprise computing platforms, including mainframe and distributed systems.

Coordinates data center space, power, cooling, and cabling activities and ensures operational procedures support the availability, integrity, and continuity of enterprise systems and services.

Coordinates operational activities impacting production environments within the data center, ensuring appropriate infrastructure teams are engaged and maintains data center facilities conditions, including power, cooling, and environmental factors, within operational standards.

Works with infrastructure teams, application support staff, and managed service providers to ensure production environments remain stable, secure, and capable of meeting operational requirements.

Ensures system maintenance, upgrades, and enhancements are planned and executed in a manner that maintains continuity of operations and minimizes service impact.

Provides day-to-day technical directions to assigned contractors engaged in data center and systems programming activities by reviewing technical work for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to established standards.

Serves as a senior technical on-call resource during evenings, weekends, and emergency situations to support emergency maintenance and IT infrastructure.

Provides emergency support to minimize service disruption and provides technical status updates to OIT leadership during critical incidents.

Works collaboratively with OIT division and other agencies an provides regular updates on current tasks.

Must adhere to Federal, State, and County cyber security policies and practices.

Performs assigned duties consistent with the occupational category, professional scope, and level of responsibility associated with the class of work., + Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.

Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties.

Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, business or public administration, or a closely related field.
- At least three (3) years of experience in information technology programming with at least one (1) year of project lead responsibilities.
Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be considered. Preferred Qualifications

Benefits & conditions
The premiums for health benefits are deducted on a pre-tax basis with the exception of Long-Term Disability, Extra Life Insurance and Voluntary Benefits (Short-Term Disability, Whole Life Insurance, Critical Illness, Accident Insurance, Cancer Indemnity, Hospital Indemnity Protection, Accident Indemnity Plan, Supplemental Dental and Group Legal Services).
New employees must enroll in the County's health benefit plans within thirty (30) days of the hire date.
The effective date of the health benefits coverage is the beginning of the month following a waiting period of forty-five (45) days from the date of hire.
After enrolling in the County's benefit plans, employees may only make changes to the plans either during the open enrollment period, which occurs annually (usually each October), and/or during the year, due to a family status change (i.e., marriage, births, divorce and adoption).
