Job description

Provides expert-level support and leadership for the Defense Health Agency's systems administration services across its global network of military hospitals, medical clinics, and dental clinics.

Serves as a top-tier specialist responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing DHA's complex IT infrastructure, including approximately 3,000 physical and virtual servers across 250 sites worldwide.

Leads the planning, implementation, and management of advanced server infrastructures, ensuring maximum performance, availability, scalability, and security of IT environments.

Develops and oversees system architectures and configurations that align with DoD cybersecurity requirements, Risk Management Framework (RMF), and various DoD strategies including Zero Trust, ICAM, Digital Modernization, and Cybersecurity Reference Architecture.

Designs and implements complex system solutions to address challenging operational requirements and emerging technologies.

Leads major system upgrades, migrations, and consolidation projects. Develops and implements advanced automation strategies to improve efficiency, reduce human error, and enhance system reliability.

Provides high-level troubleshooting and problem-solving for the most complex system issues, serving as the escalation point for Tier 1 and Tier 2 support teams.

Conducts in-depth performance analysis and capacity planning to ensure optimal system operation and future scalability.

Leads the development and implementation of disaster recovery and business continuity strategies, ensuring 24-hour operational support capabilities.

Oversees the design and implementation of sophisticated backup and recovery solutions to safeguard critical data and systems.

Plays a crucial role in maintaining the security posture of DHA's systems, leading security hardening efforts, vulnerability assessments, and remediation activities.

Collaborates closely with cybersecurity teams to implement and maintain advanced security controls and monitoring solutions.

Provides strategic guidance on technology adoption, system architecture, and best practices.

Leads the evaluation and integration of new technologies to enhance DHA's IT capabilities.

Develops and maintains high-level system documentation, including architectural designs, standard operating procedures, and technical specifications.

Works independently, providing mentorship to Tier 1 and Tier 2 personnel and collaborating with other high-level technical experts across various IT disciplines.

Represents the systems administration team in cross-functional projects and high-level planning meetings.
Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field. Master's degree preferred.

Advanced certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Red Hat Certified Design Expert, or equivalent) are highly desirable.
Experience:

8-10 years of progressive experience in systems administration, with at least 5 years in a senior or lead role managing enterprise-level environments.

Should have extensive experience in designing and managing complex, multi-site server infrastructures, preferably in military or healthcare settings.

Demonstrated expertise in advanced system architectures, automation, and emerging technologies is required.
