Job description
We're conducting a confidential search for a Network & Security Engineer on behalf of a global organization with a significant Charlotte presence. This is a hands-on BAU contract - the senior team is focused on strategic programs and needs a strong engineer who can hit the ground running across switching, routing, firewalling, and physical networking. If you're comfortable in a comms room as much as a conference room and want to work inside a global network estate at real scale, keep reading.
What You'll Own
- Day-to-day BAU network and security operations across a global environment - switching, routing, firewalling, and physical data center / comms room work
- Support active M&A integration and office moves requiring hands-on network and AV support across multiple locations
- Manage and triage incidents via LogicMonitor (SNMP-based monitoring) and ServiceNow ticketing
- Implement planned changes across all network and security devices and services
- Respond to major incidents and perform effective troubleshooting under pressure
- Maintain and update design documentation, runbooks, change documentation, and test plans
- Work within an Agile environment and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing team
- Occasional out-of-hours changes required; no routine on-call
The Environment ~130 Palo Alto firewalls · 165+ meeting rooms & conference spaces · 25-person global network & security team
You'll be joining a team of 15 network and security engineers and 10 UC/AV specialists covering global connectivity, unified communications (Webex, Teams), and conferencing at scale. The team handles most operational work in-house - this hire adds BAU capacity so senior engineers can stay focused on strategic programs.
Requirements
- Cisco switching and routing - hands-on operational experience is core; CCNP preferred, CCNA considered for strong candidates
- Palo Alto firewall experience at scale - recent PanOS 10.2 or 11.1+ familiarity strongly preferred given frequent code refreshes in this environment
- Strong physical networking skills - patching, racking, stacking, device installs in comms rooms and data centers
- OSPF and BGP knowledge - solid understanding of routing protocols in a global environment
- Packet capture and troubleshooting tools - Wireshark or equivalent
- Azure networking experience - AZ-700 certified or equivalent hands-on experience
Strong Advantages
- PCNSE or PCCSE certification (or equivalent experience)
- Cisco ISE and/or NAC solution experience
- Experience with DDoS mitigation services
- Familiarity with LogicMonitor or similar SNMP-based monitoring tools
- ServiceNow for incident and change management
- Connectivity technologies including DIA, MPLS, and DWDM
- Cisco and Meraki wireless experience
- Micro-segmentation and Zero Trust principles
Nice to Have
- Network automation experience - Cisco DNA/DNAC beneficial but not required for this contract role
- UC/AV support familiarity (Webex, Teams, conferencing environments), * Independently productive in BAU tasks from day one; not junior, not a senior project director
- MSP or enterprise background welcome - industry vertical is not a requirement as long as the technology knowledge is current and hands-on
- Strong documentation skills - you create and maintain operational docs, not just execute tickets
- Comfortable working autonomously and managing your own workload across multiple priorities
- Collaborative team player - you'll work closely with senior engineers and UC/AV colleagues across a global team
