Job description
When infrastructure fails, businesses stop. That's why we're looking for a Lead System Administrator who wants to take full ownership of a modern, on-premise SaaS environment and lead it into its next phase of maturity.
This is not a "keep-the-lights-on" role. You'll be the technical and operational owner of a high-availability platform used daily by thousands of professionals. You'll lead a distributed team, make strategic infrastructure decisions, and stay hands-on where it matters.
What you'll do
- Lead and mentor a distributed team of senior system administrators
- Own and evolve a large-scale on-prem infrastructure (performance, reliability, security)
- Design and enforce technical standards, automation and best practices
- Drive stability, scalability and high availability across multiple environments
- Proactively identify risks and bottlenecks before they impact production
- Act as the go-to decision maker for infrastructure architecture and roadmap
Your toolbox
- Linux (Debian/Ubuntu), Kubernetes (must-have), Docker
- Proxmox, Ceph (strong plus), on-prem data centers
- Prometheus, Grafana, ElasticSearch
- Networking, firewalls, mail systems, security
- CI/CD and automation mindset
Requirements
- A senior infrastructure professional with 10+ years of real-world experience
- A hands-on leader who enjoys being close to the systems and the team
- Experienced with complex, high-availability SaaS environments
- Someone who has seen multiple infrastructures - not just one setup for years
- Practical, proactive and calm under pressure
- Leadership is essential, attitude even more so
Benefits & conditions
- Hybrid working (Amsterdam + remote)
- Strong pension, generous holidays and time-for-time on-call compensation
- Clear growth path towards infrastructure or architecture leadership
If you're ready to take the lead, keep your feet in the mud, and build systems that truly matter - this role is for you.
