Job description
Our client t is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to own and support the core network infrastructure. This role is highly hands-on and operational, with responsibility for routing, switching, firewall management, and supervision of engineers and consultants supporting critical public safety systems., * Design, maintain, and optimize secure, high-performance network infrastructure supporting CAD and public safety systems
- Lead day-to-day network engineering efforts across routing, switching, and firewall environments
- Serve as the SME for Palo Alto firewalls and Panorama (configuration, management, troubleshooting)
- Manage Cisco IOS and Cisco Nexus infrastructure, including data center environments
- Address and stabilize OSPF and BGP routing issues, including technical debt cleanup and optimization
- Supervise Network Engineers and consultants (2+ direct reports expected)
- Lead infrastructure projects from planning through implementation
- Coordinate with City ITS, vendors, and regional partners
- Maintain documentation, asset inventories, and ticketing systems (ServiceNow, Jira, etc.)
- Participate in audits, security reviews, budgeting, and long-term network planning
- Provide after-hours support as needed for critical incidents
Requirements
This is a mission-critical environment with urgency, structure, and high visibility-ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced, structured organizations like public safety, military, or regulated industries., * 5+ years of network engineering experience in complex enterprise environments
- Deep hands-on experience with Palo Alto Next-Gen Firewalls and Panorama (SME-level)
- Strong experience with Cisco IOS and Cisco Nexus
- Advanced routing knowledge: OSPF, BGP (plus EIGRP, IPsec, VPNs, NAT)
- Splunk, SolarWinds Orion, ServiceNow, Jira experience
- Comfortable operating in urgent, highly structured environments with frequent interruptions
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- Public safety, government, military, or highly regulated industry experience
- Experience supervising engineers or contractors
- Industry certifications such as CCNP or Palo Alto Networks Certified
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
